Local communities working together to keep products in circulation at their highest Value point: EEESafe & LocalitEEE

Sep 8, 2025

Developed to support local communities keep products in circulation at there highest point EEESafe and LocalitEEE represent an exciting way people can support the circular economy.

EEESafe is the UK’s only trademarked Appliance Safety Repair Standard, designed to prevent unnecessary waste of valuable resources by extending the safe life of electrical goods. Each appliance registered creates a Digital Twin in the Appliance Safety Register, showing repair history, recall status, and safety checks before it can be reused or sold. This not only reduces fire risks and unsafe online sales but also diverts tonnes of steel, copper, plastic, aluminium and other potential CRM’s away from waste streams. By setting a trusted standard, EEESafe closes a critical gap in the repair sector and demonstrates how local action can deliver measurable national outcomes in carbon reduction and resource conservation.

LocalitEEE takes this further by embedding EEESafe’s safety protocols into a place-based circular economy model that can scale across up to 400 UK communities. Every repair and resale feeds directly into environmental metrics and generates PLEEECash micro-grants for the most vulnerable, ensuring social as well as ecological impact. By keeping goods, materials, and skills within defined local economies, LocalitEEE strengthens community resilience while reducing Scope 3 emissions from transport-heavy reuse schemes. Together, EEESafe and LocalitEEE offer a scalable pathway to waste prevention, local wealth building, and sustainable resource management — delivering for People, Place, and Planet
